History of JAISALMER

Geologists visit Jaisalmer. 15 miles away is Wood Fossil Park. Follow 180 million-year-old Thar Desert geologic catastrophes here. Jaisalmer defends India's western border. It's near Pakistan and the Thar Desert. Sonar Qila is Jaisalmer's most famous fort (Golden Fort). Jaisalmer Fort isn't a tourist attraction like other Indian forts. There are stores, motels, and havelis.

History of JAISALMER

12th-century Jaisalmer began. Rawal Jaisal, the oldest heir of the Rawal of Deoraj, lost the kingdom of Lodurva to a younger half-brother. Rawal Jaisal met sage Eesul while hunting for a new capital. The sage informed him Krishna's prophesy that a Yaduvanshi descendent would start a kingdom here. Rawal Jaisal built Jaisalmer as his capital in 1156.
